Hitler was a creationist, not a devotee of Darwin

One of the most obnoxious and shameful assertions creationists make is that Hitler was motivated by Darwin’s evolutionary thought. Actually the evidence is that Hitler was firmly in the creationist camp and unsympathetic to Darwin.

A quick search of Mein Kampf shows that Hitler referenced Darwin not once, but the phrase God appeared 37 times and creator 8 times.

Just like many modern Creationists, Hitler believed in the static species concept:

The fox is always a fox, the goose a goose, the tiger a tiger, etc.,… (Vol I: Chapter IX)

This concept that species were static and sharply delineated led to Hitler’s extrapolation to races, and prompted him to ‘purify’ the Aryan race of other influences. Hitler advocated reductions in diversity by purification- but evolution is about increasing diversity. His writings also indicate that he saw human development as a teleological process, whereas evolution is non-teleological.

Books on evolutionary biology were listed as seditious. Included is this 1935 list of banned books:

Schriften weltanschaulichen und lebenskundlichen Chararkters, deren Inhalt die falsche naturwissenschaftliche Aufklarung eines primitiven Darwinismus und Monismus ist (Hackel).

Antisemitism had no evolutionary science basis, it had been sustained by Christianity in Europe for centuries. Martin Luther (mid-16th C) advocated to ‘taking their gold and possessions’, burning down their property, and expelling them from the country’. http://www.awitness.org/books/luther/on_jews_and_their_lies_p2.html

Luther’s writing, rather than Darwin’s, was actually used by the Nazis to promote their genocide.*
